Responsible company development

The Group's social responsibility

The successful development is not solely based on the company’s core basic data. In recent years, questions of climate change, exhaustible resources and demographic development have come under intense public focus. A responsible company asks itself these questions.

This responsibility can only be met with qualified staff on all levels, which is why one of the main focuses is on the area of education and further training. BLG LOGISTICS already present at schools – for example in the form of school partnerships.

Focus on education and further training

This is sustained through the high-quality vocational education in professions of the dual education system. It also includes the possibility of simultaneously obtaining a high school certificate.
Traineeships offer students the chance to write dissertations at BLG LOGISTICS. BLG LOGISTICS co-operates with colleges and universities.
Young people with high school certificates are introduced to management tasks as part of regular young manager programmes. The systematic development of staff is an integral part of the personnel policy.

Health and Sport

The area of health and sport is another main focus.
Systematic work safety is an important element, and BLG LOGISTICS received an award from the workers’ council for the clearly reduced rate of occupational accidents.
Fitness and sport serve to maintain health.
This also includes regular medical examinations and ergonomic workplace assessments, along with specific health tests or influenza vaccinations.

Social Involvement

Bremen and Bremerhaven are one of the main focuses for social involvement, but BLG LOGISTICS is also active at many foreign locations. For example, with social projects in Belarus and the Ukraine, as well as South Africa and Brazil.
As part of the “Changeover” project, BLG LOGISTICS management occasionally help out at social facilities, but most aid work is done behind the scenes.

“Economics at the Port” Project

Very few young people know how much Germany is involved with globalisation, and the role logistics plays in it. For this reason, the “Economics at the Port” Project was set up together with partners, led by the Institute for Economic Education at the University of Oldenburg. The lesson material is available to all schools.

Integration of long-time unemployed persons

The Port Work 05/15 Project is an award-winning part of the personnel strategy. With activities such as the age-based work organisation, health management, employment of women and so-called knowledge tandems, the further development and fixed integration of existing and future staff is encouraged.
As part of the ma-co (maritime competence centre), 2,800 long-time unemployed persons will be re-integrated into the first labour market over the next few years. They will mainly be employed at the Bremerhaven, Hamburg and Wilhelmshaven ports. ma-co is the union of the Bremen port college and the Hamburg port advanced education centre.
