Seaport terminal
Bremerhaven is the strongest port terminal in the network and, with over 1.2 million vehicles a year, is one of the largest automobile ports in the world. European manufacturers mainly ship their products to North American, East Asia and the Middle East. Imports predominantly come from Europe, Asia and the USA. All reputable car shipping companies regularly service Bremerhaven. Each year, more than 1,200 car ships call in at the terminal.
Production shifts abroad by German manufacturers mean “German” vehicles are also imported, e.g. BMW and Mercedes from US production. Added to this are cars which are unloaded from large ships in Bremerhaven and transported to the specific countries by sea on smaller ships (trans-shipment).
The terminal offers parking space capacities for approx. 90,500 vehicles over an area of 240 ha, and is also equipped with 7 parking racks, 5 warehouses, 14 sidings, 10 berths for deep sea carriers and 8 berths for short sea carriers. (Working Hours [PDF, 480KB])
BLG Logistics’ main clients at the Bremerhaven car terminal include, on the one hand, vehicle manufacturers – particularly Daimler, BMW and Hyundai/ Kia. On the other hand, our main clients are shipping companies such as WWL, Eukor, UECC, KESS, NYK and MOL, “K“Line, Höegh Autoliners.
RoRo/High & Heavy
The services in the High & Heavy area include the warehousing and delivery of machines, heavy items and vehicles, e.g. locomotives and other equipment. Currently, a total of 1.2 million t of High & Heavy goods can be handled in the special areas of the car terminal.
Vehicle technical centre (PDI/VPC)
BLG Logistics has a technical centre with adjacent parking space for 10,000 vehicles over an area of 300,000 m² at the Bremerhaven site. At this technical centre, primarily imported vehicles and commercial vehicles from 18 different manufacturers are processed with a high degree of technical know-how. The centre is equipped with several de-preservation and car washes, painting cabins, as well as numerous car hoists to render the various technical services.
The services at the Bremerhaven location range from inspection, de-preservation and washing, to paintwork, repairs and modifications. They also include the installation of special fittings such as DVD systems, iPods, mobile telephones, navigation systems and sunroofs. However, Europe’s largest car workshop also offers special paintwork services or the modification of special series.
BLG Logistics’ main clients at the technical centre include Daimler, BMW, Hyundai, Mazda, and Gefco.
Truck station
Our own truck fleet with special vehicles which are responsible for the transportation from the terminals or the OEM direct to the car dealer.
Container logistics
By tradition a major port and shipbuilding centre, Bremerhaven occupies a favourable geographic position, where the mouth of the Weser joins the North Sea. The quay at the Wilhelm Kaisen Container Terminal measures 4,920 metres, making it the longest in the world. This means it is possible to handle container ships of the post-panamax generation here.
Bremerhaven has efficient transport connections with the hinterland for onward shipment of goods to the business centres of Europe. Two thirds of all goods are carried by long-distance container transport via rail. In addition, daily feeder-vessel services on the North Sea and Baltic link Bremerhaven with Scandinavia and northern Europe.
