Volkswagen Group Award 2010 for BLG LOGISTICS

In an Oscar’s ceremony of sorts, Volkswagen invited the group’s top 100 suppliers to the VW trade fair centre in Isenbüttel near Wolfsburg on 10 June. The motto was “The night of the best”. BLG CEO Detthold Aden was visibly proud as he accepted the 2010 Volkswagen Group Award from the chairman of the executive board, Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn and executive director Francisco J. Garcia Sanz.

The BLG LOGISTICS GROUP was awarded for the special services rendered by its subsidiary BLG AutoRail, founded in 2008. The explanatory statement in the certificate reads: “With your new subsidiary, BLG AutoRail, you developed what was for us an extremely important business division vehicle transport by rail in 2008. This high, long-term investment in rail wagons saw you run a significant corporate risk in a difficult market situation. You were quickly able to establish yourself as the new competitor on the market, and reduce the prices to a conventional market level for the relevant routes. We thank you for your willingness to take risks, for the smooth start, and for your flexibility, even during vast volume fluctuations. These are all perfect reasons for continuing to develop our long-time partnership!”

During the night, Aden congratulated Gerald Binz, CEO of BLG AutoRail, by telephone for BLG’s surprising victory. The Volkswagen Group is BLG AutoRail’s largest individual client, making up around 40 percent of its transport volume. BLG will transport around 80,000 vehicles for VW in 2010. Last year, BLG transported a total of around 100,000 vehicles by rail. The volume is expected to double to some 200,000 vehicles this year. BLG currently has 500 wagons; this is set to be 600 by the year’s end. The investments are continuing. A freight car fleet of 1,275 units is being planned, corresponding to 75 block trains.
